Nyland Green Updates Recruitment, Talks Georgia Football
4-Star Newton High School cornerback Nyland Green is one of the most highly coveted defensive backs in the entire class of 2021. Green has a tremendous skill set coupled with more than ideal size for a corner in today's game. Really, one of the only things that can rival Green's talent is his infectious smile and positive personality. That was on full display as Brooks Austin of Dawgs Daily on SI.com caught up with Green at The MVP Camp in Johns Creek on Sunday.

Green is one of several division one caliber standouts at Newton High School. The rising senior defensive back was out and about at the MVP Camp not as a participant but more so cheering on some of his teammates like 2023 defensive end Justin Benton, 2023 linebacker Olan Robinson, and 2022 cornerback Audavion Collins. With the amount of talent on the Newton defense this year, it's easy to understand why Green is so hopeful for a 2020 GHSA season and why he and his teammates have, "been out here grinding, I came out here to support some of my young guys... we are just ready to get back to ball. Excited!"
In terms of Green's recruitment, for a while, it was believed by many in the industry that Clemson was the front runner. However, the Covington, Georgia, native made it clear Sunday that any decision is far from being made and that a top-four is in the works. Green did express when talking about Coach Hankton and the UGA staff, "That man (Hankton) is crazy. It's amazing! I just love the whole Georgia staff. They're all funny, we all get along together. Talk smack about football and everything." Green also seems to be keen on the proximity of Athens to his home town of Covington. "Oh yeah. That's right up the street. That's like going to Walmart or Kroger" Green said with a chuckle.
It will be interesting to see what schools end up in the top four of Green's recruitment, and that is expected to drop soon. It seems certain that Georgia will make the cut and the hometown team will be doing everything possible to add Green to its 2021. The secondary is an area of need in this cycle as the Dawgs will be looking to replenish its depth after possible losing every starter plus a key backup on the back end of its defense after the 2020 season.
Green also mentioned Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, and Clemson as schools that are focusing on him as of late.
