What Georgia Gets In RB Commit Chauncey Bowens
After taking his first official visit for this summer, Chauncey Bowens made headlines this weekend. Georgia flipped the former Florida Gators commit this weekend while he was in Athens, so let's look at what Georgia gets from this big-time running back.
Other than already winning over the hearts of Georgia fans by flipping his commitment from the Gators to the Bulldogs, what all does Bowens bring? The 5' 11" RB rushed for over 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns in his junior season for The Benjamin School out of North Palm Beach, Fl. In Bowens' junior season tape, you see some immediate pluses that the Bulldogs will be itching to get their hands on.
First is his ability to reach his top speed very quickly. In multiple clips, you see Bowens ability to explode through a gap once he gets the ball and takes off for the endzone. This an attribute that Smart has been known to bet on, and he earned his money's worth on such gambles. Another attribute that Bowens has already shown great potential with is his vision, showing a good ability to find a crease and burst through it for even more yardage after the point of contact.
Georgia has long been known as "RBU" to not only their own fans but respective fans of college football as well. Another thing Smart and his Georgia Bulldogs have also been known for picking off Florida commits and bringing them home to Athens since he took over the helm.
Bowens has the skill set to make an impact when he joins the program officially. At 5’11, 220 pounds, Bowens ran consistently in the 10.8 range in the hundred rhis spring as well, matching Smart’s preference for metrics of pure speed.
