Georgia Tech Crushes Cornell 12-2 and Moves Their Record to 6-0
Looking for another series win, Georgia Tech took the field vs Cornell and they put together one of their best performances so far this season. Their offense was dominant and never gave Cornell a chance to win this game. It was not just the offense though. The pitching was very good and only gave up two runs today. So far this season, the pitching has been at the level that the Yellow Jackets have failed to achieve, and that has been a good sign.
Aeden Finateri took the mound today looking for his second win and this was the lineup that Georgia Tech had today:
1. CF Drew Burress
2. LF Cam Jones
3. SS Payton Green
4. C Matthew Ellis
5. 1B John Giesler
6. DH Bobby Zmarzlak
7. 2B Mike Becchetti
8. 3B Carson Kerce
9. RF Parker Brosius
This game was over in the first inning. Drew Burress has been playing at an incredibly high level to start the year and he continued that today. Burress had a solo home run in the first at-bat of the day for the Yellow Jackets and that set the tone.
After that, it was an avalanche from Georgia Tech offense in the first offense. An RBI double from John Giesler gave Georgia Tech a 2-0 lead and then Zmarzlak hit an RBI double of his own to make it 3-0. Becchetti then came up to the plate and hit a two-run home run to give Georgia Tech its 4th an 5th runs of the first inning alone.
To cap the inning off, Burress got his second at-bat and absolutely crushed another ball that ended up being a three-run home run. Georgia Tech scored 8 runs in the first inning and Cornell never had a chance.
It was a breeze from that point forward for Georgia Tech.
Finateri would be finished after the fifth inning and what a day it was for him. He only allowed three hits and struck out ten batters and he had total control of the game.
Becchetti kept things going in the fifth with a solo home run and then Georgia Tech scored its final three runs in the sixth inning. Giesler had a 2-RBI double to make it 11-0 and then Zmarzlak had an RBI double to make it 12-0.
Tate McKee, Brett Barfield, and Caden Gaudette would come in the game as relief for Finateri and pitched the final four innings. Combined, the allowed five hits and struck out four batters.
The final score would be 12-2 and Georgia Tech would move to 6-0. It was a complete all-around performance and showed what they are capable of when they are firing on all cylinders.
The Yellow Jackets go for the series sweep tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
