ACC Basketball: Updated ACC Standings (12/26)
Conference play is about to be in full swing around the ACC.
Georgia Tech wrapped up its non-conference schedule against Nevada on Christmas Eve and played well against what should be a tournament team. It was a decent non-conference season for the Yellow Jackets, with the highlight beating Mississippi State and coming close against the Wolfpack on Sunday.
The next test for Stoudamire and the Yellow Jackets will be against Florida State on January 3rd in Tallahassee. That is a winnable game and they also have Boston College and Notre Dame after that, so there is an outside shot that Georgia Tech could be 4-0 in the ACC before a rematch with the Blue Devils.
Clemson looks like they are going to be a tough team to beat in the conference this season. It is still early, but the Tigers are 10-1 and have been impressive so far. Miami is 9-2, but they do have a pair of blowout losses and have not looked like the same team that went to the final four a year ago.
While Duke might be at the bottom now, there is too much talent on that team to not finish in the upper half of the ACC. North Carolina has navigated a tough non-conference schedule and I think they are a major threat in the ACC this year. Keep an eye on Virginia, NC State, and Virginia Tech as teams that could be interesting to watch.
