Georgia Tech travels to Miami for its next ACC contest

Tomorrow afternoon, two ACC teams looking to move past blowout losses face off. 

It is fair to say that these two teams are playing the worst of any teams in the conference right now. Miami is coming off of a blowout loss to Duke and they have lost five straight. After starting the year as a team hoping to contend in the ACC and coming off of a Final Four run, it is fair to wonder how much gas is left in the tank for Miami and if they have quit on this season. 

Georgia Tech on the other hand has been struggling for some time. They have gotten some big wins in the process, but also some ugly losses. The latest loss was an 81-57 beatdown at the hands of Clemson. 

Georgia Tech and Miami are meeting for the first time in more than 13 months. The Yellow Jackets toppled the 12th-ranked Hurricanes, 76-70, on Jan. 4, 2023 in Atlanta.

Miles Kelly (14.4 ppg) leads three Yellow Jackets averaging in double figures this season, including freshman forward Baye Ndongo (11.8) and junior guard Kowacie Reeves, Jr. (10.0). Tech’s other rotation player averaged between 4.8 and 9.0 points per game.

Miami has a 15-11 edge against the Yellow Jackets since it joined the ACC. Tech won the first two meetings against Miami after they became members of the ACC, but the Hurricanes won nine of the next 11 before the Yellow Jackets captured seven of the last 13.

Georgia Tech had a point this season where it looked like their offense had started clicking, but they have been underwhelming for the past five games. Tech has scored under one point per possession in its last five games, coming on the heels of a seven-game streak of more than one point per possession. The Jackets have failed to convert 40 percent from the floor in four of their last five games, and connected on less than 30 percent of their threes in three of the five games.
