Georgia Tech Basketball vs Wake Forest: Game Preview, How to Watch, Listen, Livestream, and Betting Odds
After letting a second-half lead against NC State on the road slip away, Georgia Tech heads back to Atlanta to try and bounce back. Their opponent on Tuesday is one of the top offensive teams in the ACC, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Wake comes into this game feeling pretty good after a near 30-point beatdown they put on Syracuse on Saturday. Wake scored nearly 100 points in their win over the Orange and they are going to be a big challenge for the Yellow Jackets.
Coming into the game, Wake Forest is 4th in the ACC in PPG, 3rd in field goal percentage, 7th in three-point attempts, 1st in three-point percentage, 7th in free throw attempts, 12th in rebounding, and 8th in turnovers. They are a balanced scoring team as well, with Hunter Sallis, Kevin Miller, Cameroon Hildreth, and Andrew Carr all averaging at least 14 PPG.
Defensively, Georgia Tech's numbers don't seem to indicate they will have a great chance of stopping the Wake Forest offense. The Yellow Jackets are 14th in the ACC in PPG allowed, 7th in field goal percentage allowed, 14th in three-point attempts allowed, and 6th in three-point percentage allowed.
It might be up to Georgia Tech's offense to be able to keep up with Wake Forest. The Yellow Jackets offense was playing to start against NC State, but a big scoring drought to start the second half let NC State pull away. They will also need to take better care of the basketball. Their 12 turnovers led to 18 points for NC State, a big difference-maker in a six-point game.
Georgia Tech is 12th in the ACC in PPG, 14th in field goal percentage, 2nd in three-point attempts, 10th in three-point percentage, 9th in free throw attempts, 2nd in rebounding, and 11th in turnovers.
Wake Forest is vulnerable on the defensive end of the floor. The Demon Deacons are 8th in the ACC in PPG allowed, 9th in field goal percentage allowed, 1st in three-point field goal attempts allowed, and 7th in three-point percentage allowed.
Wake Forest (14-7, 6-4 ACC) has averaged more than 80 points per game in conference play and come to Atlanta following a 99-70 win Saturday over Syracuse. The Demon Deacons have scored 80 or more in five of their six ACC wins, and 90 or more in their last two.
Four Tech players are averaging double figures in ACC play - Miles Kelly (14.3), Baye Ndongo (13.4), Kowacie Reeves, Jr. (11.4), and Naithan George (11.2). Those four players have combined to hit 46.8 percent of their shots from the floor (204-of-436) and 38.2 percent from three-point range (73-of-191).
Georgia Tech has a 46-42 lead in the all-time series and a 45-40 lead in games played since it became a member of the ACC. That is the best winning percentage that the Yellow Jackets have against any of the pre-2005 expansion members of the conference.
Tech has won 11 of the last 16 meetings between the two teams, but the Demon Deacons have taken the last two, 80-64 in Atlanta during the 2021-22 season and 71-70 in Winston-Salem during the 2022-23 season. Demon Deacons’ coach Steve Forbes is 3-2 against the Jackets, having led his East Tennessee State team to a 69-68 victory over the Jackets in Atlanta during his first season with the Buccaneers on Nov. 15, 2015.
