After 2025 edge rusher Cole Funderburk announced his top 5 finalists, last week, he unveiled his plans to attend Georgia Tech Junior Day on January 27th.

“Coach Coleman has been recruiting me really hard for the past nine months, which has been bringing me back to them a lot. I am really excited about the junior day visit and getting back into Georgia Tech gear. I am actually wearing some Georgia Tech gear right now. I am excited to get back there,” said Funderburk.”

Something to keep a close eye on for Funderburk is that he is only a 45-minute drive away from campus and has been several times to the Yellow Jacket campus. He also has a close relationship with his former high school coach Bill Stewart, who is now a defensive analyst at Georgia Tech.

“What really caught my eye was that the school is in the city. It’s on its own part. It is a really pretty campus. It’s only 45 minutes from my house so it is really convenient for me. I think being in Atlanta would be awesome, and it is really close to a lot of things,” said Funderburk. “I think one of the big things that is continuing to bring me back there is that my old high school coach Stewart is there and staying in touch with me. We are talking a lot and I think that is big.”

As far as factors that went into the top five there were things each program did that stood out to Funderburk and why Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Appalachian State, Indiana, and Wake Forest are his finalists.

“These schools were very upfront and not hesitant at all because they really respected me as a player and believed in me. That stands out to me a lot. I think that is what caused them to be in the top five,” said Funderburk.

Funderburk also has a visit set up with Wake Forest for this upcoming weekend and plans to visit more schools this spring and summer.

“I am going to Wake Forest next weekend on the 20th. It’s their junior day so I will be there for the weekend. I definitely will be taking an official to Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and all the schools in my top five. I am definitely going to visit other schools that haven’t offered me and try to build more relationships because my recruitment isn’t over after that top five. It is just what I narrow it down to until I find a home and visit other schools.

Funderburk is a major game wrecker for the North Gwinnett Bulldogs and plans to add an elite first step to his arsenal to be an even more impactful player on the field. He is not just looking to be a dominant player his senior season but to be an impact player once he hits a college campus in 2025.

“One thing for me this offseason I need to work on is get off. I have a good get-off right now, but I need to be elite, which is the top level. I need to have elite speed because I want to be a year one impact starter, and I think that is something I need to work on. If you can get that first step down before the offensive line moves, you have a 60% chance of winning that rep.
