Early Look At The Top 2024 Targets At Cornerback

Who are the Yellow Jackets top targets at cornerback for the 2024 class?

With January ending, the contact period for recruiting will be over and another dead period is going to begin starting on February 1st. The Georgia Tech staff has put in a busy few weeks of recruiting, hosting visits, and going on the road to visit high schools and coaches. The top targets have been emerging for the upcoming 2024 class and here at AllYellowJackets, we have been breaking down the top targets at each position and there are only a couple of positions left.

Now let's look at the cornerback targets for the 2024 recruiting class.

When looking at who might be the top targets for the coaching staff, it is important to follow the visits. Georgia Tech has had three weekends full of visitors and targets come on campus. Remember, there are going to be more offers to come out and there is a long way to go until the signing day in December

So are the top cornerback targets for Georgia Tech in 2024?

1. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr (Gadsden City, AL)

Dre Kirkpatrick Jr was offered by the Yellow Jackets in December, shortly after Brent Key was hired as the head coach and the son of the former Alabama cornerback was visiting Atlanta over this past weekend.

The 6'0 192 LBS defensive back can play both corner and safety, but I think he might work best at cornerback. Kirkpatrick also has offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Missouri, among others.

It is good work by the staff to have gotten him on campus already and look for Kirkpatrick to remain a top target for the staff going forward.

2. Jaylin Lackey (South Gwinnett, GA)

Lackey is one of the most underrated athletes in the state and Georgia Tech has made it known that he is a top target. Lackey is similarly built to Kirkpatrick Jr (6'0 180 LBS) and is a very good athlete.

Lackey was on campus for Junior Day a couple of weeks ago and this coaching staff is going to continue to recruit him and keep him a top target at the position.

3. Daniel James (McEachern, GA)

James was another visitor on Junior Day a couple of weeks ago and plays at one of the top high schools in the state. He is a quick cornerback at 5'11 165 LBS and he is starting to get noticed more around the country.

James has picked up some ACC offers in recent days from schools like Duke, Wake Forest, and Pitt. He has held an offer from Georgia Tech since last summer and I expect him to remain a target for this coaching staff in this recruiting class.

4. Jivan Baly (Meadowcreek, GA)

Baly is a local cornerback that was on campus this past weekend for a visit and he has been getting noticed by more power five schools as well. Baly holds offers from Pitt, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Texas A&M, among others.

Baly is talented and a local kid that the coaching staff would love to keep home. It was good that he was on campus.

5. Tyson Weaver (Sammamish, WA)

This is where I think there is a drop off in terms how high I think the corners are on the recruiting board. The top four on this list are top targets and the next bunch are kids who have been offered this month, but have not visited since Key was named the head coach.

Weaver was a summer visitor, but has not visited since. He is a talented cornerback from the west coast and possesses the kind of athleticism and frame I think this coaching staff is looking for (6'1 185 LBS).

Arizona, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt are the other schools that have offered Weaver.

6. Jiquan Sanks (Phenix City, AL)

Sanks was offered just recently by Georgia Tech and the Yellow Jackets are currently the only offer that Sanks holds according to 247Sports. Sanks is 6'0 175 LBS and fits the mold of what the coaching staff is looking for. Keep an eye on this recruitment.

7. Jayden Lewis (Anniston, AL)

Lewis is a four-star cornerback from Alabama and he was offered by Georgia Tech last week. The Yellow Jackets staff has been making offers to some of the top players in the state of Alabama and Lewis is no exception. He is very talented, but will be pursued by multiple schools.

Lewis was visiting Auburn this past weekend and the Tigers might be the favorite in this recruitment right now. Colorado, Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Penn State are some of the other offers Lewis holds.

8. Jamari Howard (Hialeah, FL)

Howard is a four-star cornerback in the 247Sports composite and a current Michigan State commit. He was offered by Tech in the last couple of days and at least deserves a mention because of that.

9. Kaleb Beasley (Lipscomb, TN)

Beasley is one of the top corners that was recently offered by Tech and a current Tennessee commit. This is a long shot, but the recent offer deserves some mention.
