Georgia Tech Football: Early Signing Day Preview
The Early Signing period for the 2024 class begins tomorrow and goes through Friday.
The initial early signing day is Dec. 20, while the final signing date in the period is Dec. 22. That means many of the nation's top programs and coaches will be putting the finishing touches on the 2024 class well ahead of the traditional February signing day.
Going into tomorrow, Georgia Tech has the No. 37 class in the country on 247Sports, No. 33 at Rivals, and No. 42 at On3 Sports. It has been a pretty solid first full class for head coach Brent Key and the 2024 class will be the highest-ranked that Georgia Tech has signed since 2020 (according to the 247Sports rankings.
Could Georgia Tech and Brent Key add to the class tomorrow? That is going to be one of the storylines for tomorrow.
Let's look at each position and how the Yellow Jackets have done ahead of tomorrow's signing period.
Quarterback
1. Aaron Philo, 6'2 200 LBS, Prince Avenue Christian High School, GA (Three-Star, No. 797 prospect nationally, No. 48 quarterback according to 247 Sports)
2. Graham Knowles, 6'7 220 LBS, South Lake Carroll High School, TX (Three-Star, No. 833, No. 49)
Georgia Tech has two quarterbacks committed in this class and both players have upside.
It was a historic season for Philo. He broke the all-time record for passing yards in the state of Georgia and led his team to another state championship.
Running Back
1. Trelain Maddox, 6'1 205, Parkview High School, GA (Three-Star, No. 1004, No. 85 ATH)
Maddox played at nearby Parkview High School and is set to sign with Georgia Tech. I think Maddox is one of the most underrated prospects in this class and I will be interested to watch his development.
Wide Receiver
1. Isiah Canion, 6'3 190 LBS, Warner Robins High School, GA (Four-Star, No. 255, No. 43 WR)
2. Trey Horne, 6'3 180 LBS, Rabun Gap High School, GA (Three-Star, No. 754, No. 58 Athlete)
Canion was a huge flip for the Yellow Jackets in the summer when they got him away from Notre Dame and both he and Horne could be impact players sooner rather than later. Wide receiver is a position that Georgia Tech is deep at, but both of these guys could be stars soon.
Tight End
1. Luke Harpring, 6'3, 210 LBS, Marist High School, GA (Four-Star No. 201, No. 15 TE)
2. David Prince, 6'4 220 LBS, Glynn Academy High School, (Three-Star, No. 1125, No. 61 TE)
The Georgia Tech staff did a great job of identifying Harpring early in the process and he has been committed to them since the summer. Harpring is the highest-rated player in the class according to 247Sports and he is another player to keep an eye on to make a potential impact early.
Offensive Line
1. Kai Greer, 6'6, 285 LBS, Marvin Ridge High School, NC (Three-Star, No. 567, No. 38 IOL)
2. Jordan Floyd, 6'5 295 LBS, Parkview High School, GA (Three-Star, No. 833, No. 59 OT)
3. Jameson Riggs, 6'4 305 LBS, Hiram High School, GA (Three-Star, No. 674)
4. Harrison Moore, 6'4 260 LBS, South Lake Carroll High School, TX (No. 1223, No. 95 IOL)
5. Santana Alo-Tupuola, 6'1 325 LBS, IMG Academy, FL (No. 1416, No. 113 IOL)
After bringing in five offensive linemen in the 2023 class, Georgia Tech is set to do so again. With all of the starters coming back and MTSU transfer Keylan Rutledge possibly taking over at right guard, all of these guys can come in and develop. Greer and Moore were recent additions, while Floyd, Riggs, and Alo-Tupuola have been committed since the summer.
This group is bringing a ton of size and Key is looking to build a solid foundation for years to come up front.
Defensive Line
1. Uche Iloh, 6'6 245 LBS, McIntosh High School, GA (Three-Star, No. 811, No. 91 DL)
2. Jordan Boyd, 6'3 220 LBS, Silver Bluff High School, SC (Three-Star, No. 768, No. 67 LB)
3. Landen Marshall 6'3 290 LBS, Andalusia High School, AL (Three-Star, No. 822, No. 94 DL)
4. Trashun Griffin, 6'5 260 LBS, Bibb County High School, AL (Three-Star, No. 1341, No. 144 DL)
Iloh is the most recent addition to the Yellow Jackets, while the others have been committed to the program. Iloh, Boyd, and Griffin are all intriguing edge players with tools and intangibles and they could be solid players with good development. I would have liked to see Georgia Tech get more players on the interior to add with Marshall.
Linebacker
1. Tah'j Butler, 6'2 215 LBS, Edna Karr High School, LA (Three-Star, No. 1405, No. 125 LBS)
2. Caleb Dozier, 6'3 225 LBS, Headland High School, AL (Three-Star, No. 1097, No. 94 ATH)
Georgia Tech got a gem in Butler and had to fend off some other programs for him. He is a player that I am excited to watch in the near future and will be one of the best players in the class. Dozier was recently committed to Mississippi State and flipped to Georgia Tech this month.
Secondary
1. Troy Stevenson, 6'0 165 LBS, Phillip Simmons High School (Four-Star, No. 396, No. 18 ATH)
2. Nehemiah Chandler, 6'1 165 LBS, Wakulla High School, FL (Three-Star, No. 1109, No. 92 CB)
3. Christian Pritchett, 6'3 180 LBS, St. Augustine High School, LA (Three-Star, No. 1373, No. 137 Safety)
4. Cedric Franklin, 6'1 180 LBS, Kell High School, GA (Three-Star, No. 1306, No. 130 safety)
Stevenson is one of the highest-rated players in the class and was a great pickup for Georgia Tech. Chandler, Pritchett, and Franklin all possess intriguing tools and athleticism and with good development, I think they will be contributors to the secondary.
