Georgia Tech Lands Commitment From 2024 Kicker Andrew Nelms

Nelms is a two-sport athlete and will kick for Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech has landed a commitment from preferred walk-on 2024 kicker Andrew Nelms. He announced he would be a kicker for the Yellow Jackets on social media earlier today.

Nelms was a kicker for Pope High School in Georgia and is a two-sport athlete, also playing baseball, where he also shines. 

From Nelms bio at Kohl's kicking:

"Nelms recently competed at Kohl's National Scholarship Camp. He scored 28/36 points on field goals and 103.57 points on kick offs. At a Spring Showcase Event in May of 2023 Nelms Scored 11 points on field goals out of a possible 15. He improved his 65 yard kickoff average from the Kohl's National Scholarship Camp in July of 2022 with his big kickoff in 2023 being 70 yards and 3.94 seconds of hang time. His average score on kickoff was 110.60 which is near the top of his class. He has shown his talent on his ball striking ability and continues to grow in his mechanics"

Georgia Tech has one of the top kickers in the ACC in Aidan Birr, who stepped up in a big way for Georgia Tech this season. While Birr is just a redshirt freshman, that will give plenty of time for someone like Nelms to improve areas of his game.

Georgia Tech has been making moves with their roster lately, with some players going out and yesterday, they got one of their best commitments of the offseason. 

Florida State transfer defensive lineman Ayobami Tifase committed to Georgia Tech today over other offers that included Wisconsin, Coastal Carolina, FAU, Marshall, and FAMU. Tifase becomes the second transfer defensive lineman to commit to Georgia Tech, joining Furman defensive end Jack Barton.

Tifase recorded one tackle during his time in Tallahassee. The 6'4 299 LBS defensive lineman is going to compete for playing time in Atlanta and at minimum, add depth for the Yellow Jackets. He recorded one tackle during his time in Tallahassee and is originally from Baltimore, MD.
