Priority Targets On Campus This Weekend For Georgia Tech
It was another busy weekend for Georgia Tech as they hosted a number of name-brand recruits on campus. Let’s dive into some of the notable targets who visited this past Saturday.
Dalen Penson- Penson is a four-star prospect and an elite corner for the Sandy Creek Patriots out in Fayette County. In 2023, Penson had 1,866 yards (1,052 passing, 814 rushing) and finished with a total of 16 touchdowns. Offensively, the speed jumps out on his Hudl film. A lot of times you can see him burning defenders on read-option plays or QB keepers. Once he hits the second level, the defense has no chance. Back in February at the Under Armour Camp series in Atlanta, he ran a 4.48 40-yard dash. Penson also competes in track and field. He was the 3A state champion in the triple jump as a sophomore and won silver in the 110M hurdles at state. Penson also qualified for the New Balance Nationals, an event where he placed fifth. You can see that speed on the Penson has 18 offers notably from Kentucky, and Duke and He recently picked up an offer from Notre Dame. Saturday marks the second time Penson has visited the Flats.
Christian Garrett- Garrett is a two-time state champion for the Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines in one of the best eras in their program. Garrett finished his junior season with 86 tackles, five sacks, and an interception. He announced his Top 7 schools back in February with Georgia Tech making the list for his services. Tennessee, USC, Ole Miss, Clemson, Georgia, and Alabama all made that list. It will be vital that Georgia Tech takes advantage of the visit and continues to show Garrett that he is a top priority for the program as other teams jockey for positioning for the elite defensive lineman. Saturday marks the second time Garrett has been on campus in the past three months.
Jaylen Bell-Bell has been a constant presence on campus for the Yellow Jackets and is a high-priority target. He has established himself as one of the best corners in the peach state. A thing to note for Bell is that his Grayson teammate Andre Fuller recently committed to Georgia Tech. There are a lot of programs after the services of the talented defensive back, but Fuller could be key helping keep Bell in-state and playing for the Yellow Jackets. Bell has also continued to build his relationship with cornerback coach Cory Peeples. He talked about their relationship back when I talked to him in February and Georgia Tech being a contender.
“I definitely feel like Georgia Tech is up there with Miami, Texas A&M, and Indiana."
Despite Georgia Tech hiring new defensive back coach Cory Peeples, it changes nothing for Bell.
“Coach Cory Peeples offered State. There is really no difference, it just translates over to Georgia Tech,” said Bell.
Christian Ward- Ward picked up an offer from Georgia Tech back in October and will be on campus for the first time this . Despite not having a big role for the Carrollton Trojans in 2023, Ward had 362 yards receiving and five touchdowns on only 12 catches. He is a threat whenever he touches the ball and is a big play waiting to happen. The potential is there for the sophomore receiver and he could be a key reason the Trojans get back to the state championship. Ward is part of a loaded WR room at Carrollton that includes Ryan Mosley, Kiyun Coffer, and potentially five-star ATH Zelus Hicks in 2024. With an elite quarterback like Julian Lewis, Ward can easily finish with an 800+ yard season with double-digit touchdowns.
