Three 2024 Signees Who Could Make an Instant Impact for Georgia Tech
It was a good signing day for Georgia Tech. They held onto their commits and pulled a couple of big moves today.
Brent Key and his staff were hard at work and their first big move of the day was flipping defensive end Amontrae Bradford from Colorado and then securing the commitment of four-star running back Anthony Carrie, beating out schools like Texas A&M, Michigan State, and North Carolina. They finished with the 7th ranked class in the ACC and it will be a good foundation for Key to continue to build his program.
When asked about the 2024 class, Brent Key said there were some developmental prospects in the class, but some guys that could make an impact soon:
“We were able to get some really good students, good people, but also good football players,” Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key said. “There’s a good mix of developmental guys that we want to develop over the course of a year or two, but also some guys that we think have a chance to come in and make an immediate impact. We’re excited for these young men to join the Georgia Tech football family.”
So who could those impact players be? Here are three that I think could have an early impact for the Yellow Jackets in 2024.
1. TE Luke Harpring
Harpring is one of the highest-rated commits in the 2024 class for Georgia Tech (Four-Star No. 201, No. 15 TE according to 247Sports) and he is going to be coming into what is a position of need for Georgia Tech. Dylan Leonard and Luke Benson are gone and although the Yellow Jackets brought in Yale transfer Jackson Hawes and Mississippi State transfer Ryland Goede, Harpring has immense upside and his athleticism could allow him to get on the field and make an impact for Georgia Tech.
2. RB Anthony Carrie
Georgia Tech is going to be returning Jamal Haynes next season and has Trey Cooley and Evan Dickens, but they are losing No. 2 back Dontae Smith and that could leave an opening for four-star running back Anthony Carrie to come in and make an impact. He is a talented player and someone that can earn carries next fall.
On the 247Sport Composite, Carrie is ranked as the No. 308 player in the country, the No. 22 running back in the country, and the No. 43 player in the state of Florida. Carrie (6'0 195 LBS) played at Carrollwood Day High School in Tampa, FL, and had other offers from NC State, North Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, LSU, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, UCF, and USC, among others. He joins three-star Trelain Maddox as the other running back in the 2024 class for Georgia Tech.
Here are some scouting notes and stats on Carrie, courtesy of 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins:
2023: In the regular season carried the ball 114 times for 855 yards and 10 TD. Also caught 7 passes for 58 yards and 2 TD. Helped Carrollwood Day post a 7-1 record and secure a No. 2 seed in the Sunshine State’s 1M playoffs.
"A compact running back with solid vision and quick feet that has spearheaded Carrollwood Day’s rushing attack the past few years. In 28 varsity games, has totaled just over 2,618 yards and 43 touchdowns on the ground while averaging 7.1 yards per carry. Size hasn’t been verified, but is believed to be under 6-foot and hovering around 185 pounds. Should tack on more mass at the next level as the body looks to still be maturing. Ability to scoot past would-be tacklers with his initial burst after evading them with swift side steps and explosive lateral cuts is by far his biggest strength at this stage in his development. Has valuable experience working as the deep back in a pro-style attack that featured a fullback every now and then. Far from a true battering ram, but isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder pads and bang for yardage. Overall, should be viewed as a well-rounded ball carrier with a natural feel for the position that will have a chance to make an impact on Saturdays. Could unlock things if he improves long speed (has an 11.43 in the 100-meter dash on file) and continues to fortify core."
3. DE Amontrae Bradford
The other big signee today, Bradford is a pass rusher with talent and that is what Georgia Tech is going to be looking for on defense. They lost Kyle Kennard to South Carolina and don't have an established player that has stepped up. On top of that, Georgia Tech had some freshmen leave in the portal. Bradford has the talent to come in and make an impact on the defense.
