One of Georgia Tech's top targets for the 2025 class has come off the board for now.

Luke Nickel, a quarterback who plays at Milton High School (GA) committed to Miami tonight. Things had been trending that way since Nickel had received two 247Sports Crystal Predictions to land at Miami and he did indeed commit to the Hurricanes tonight, one day after having a great scrimmage performance against Gainesville High School.

A couple of thoughts here. 1) The 2025 class is still in its early stages and the Yellow Jackets have plenty of time to make up ground on the Hurricanes. 2) To be able to land prospects like Nickel, Georgia Tech is going to have to show improvement on the field this year, which I think they are more than capable of. 3) It is very early for kids in the 2025 class to be thought of as solid commitments, no matter who they commit to.

The Yellow Jackets have two quarterbacks committed for the 2024 class with Aaron Philo (GA) and Graham Knowles (TX) on board. Miami has one commitment from a quarterback in the 2024 class and that is Georgia-based QB Judd Anderson.

Nickel did take a visit to Miami in late July.

Nickel has been gaining offers lately from several Division One programs. Duke, Boston College, Miami, Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Stanford, UCF, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

On the 247Sports Composite, Nickel is rated as a high three-star prospect and the No. 321 player in the country. He is the No. 25 quarterback in the country and the No. 33 player in the state of Georgia.

Nickel's teammate, tight end Ryan Ghea, is going to be one of the most sought-after tight ends in the country in the next recruiting cycle and has already visited Georgia Tech as well as Miami.

The Yellow Jackets class currently ranks 26th on 247Sports and 24th on Rivals. The class is No. 5 in the ACC behind Florida State, Clemson, Miami, and North Carolina.
