Bowl Projections 2023: Where is Georgia Tech Projected to Play Heading Into Week 13?

Georgia Tech clinched bowl eligibility with their win over Syracuse

For the first time since 2018, Georgia Tech is going to be playing in a bowl game.

The Yellow Jackets got out to a 24-3 lead over Syracuse last night and though the Orange made a comeback, Georgia Tech was able to make the crucial plays down the stretch and seal the victory at home. Now, they are 6-5 heading into their matchup with No. 1 Georgia this weekend and no matter what happens, they will have another game to play.

The bowl projections have been updated and with one week to go in the regular season, it seems that there is starting to be a consensus on where Georgia Tech might be heading.

247Sports, ESPN, CBS, and College Football News have the Yellow Jackets going to Yankee Stadium to play in the Pinstripe Bowl vs Rutgers, who is also 6-5 this season. The Pinstripe Bowl will be on Thursday, December 28th at 2:15 and be televised by ESPN.

The only projection from a major outlet that did not have Georgia Tech going to the Pinstripe Bowl had the Yellow Jackets going to Charlotte to play in the Duke's Mayo Bowl vs Kentucky.

Georgia Tech and Rutgers have only played once before and it was 102 years ago. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Scarlet Knights 48-14 in Atlanta in 1921.

While Georgia Tech has not played in a bowl game since 2018, they have not won a bowl game since defeating Kentucky 33-18 in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Before any talk of a bowl game though, Georgia Tech has to face their arch rivals this week in Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets have not beaten the Bulldogs since 2016 and have not won against Georgia in Atlanta since 1999. Since 2000, Georgia Tech has only beaten Georgia four times. Georgia is currently 11-0 and just finished SEC play 8-0 with a blowout win over Tennessee yesterday.

In Brent Key's first matchup against the Bulldogs last year, the Yellow Jackets played them much closer than anyone could have anticipated. Georgia Tech led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter and only trailed the eventual national champions 10-7. Halfway through the third quarter, the game was 13-7, but tight end Brock Bowers scored to take a 20-7 lead and the Bulldogs finally pulled away and ended up winning 37-14.

Georgia Tech vs Georgia kicks off at 7:30 this Saturday on ABC.
