Eric Singleton Jr and Ethan Mackenny Named Freshmen All-Americans by On3 Sports
Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr and offensive tackle Ethan Mackenny were named to the Freshman All-American team by On3 Sports today.
Singleton Jr. leads all freshmen (true or redshirt) nationally with 64.2 receiving yards per game and ranks second among true freshmen nationally with six touchdown receptions. His 706 receiving yards and six touchdown catches both rank among the top 10 overall in the ACC, while his six TD receptions are just one shy of the Georgia Tech freshman record of seven, held by Calvin Johnson (2004) and Ahmarean Brown (2019).
Mackenny started the majority of the games at left tackle for Georgia Tech this season and you could see his improvement in each game. Mackenny was a part of a Georgia Tech offensive line that helped pave the way for the ACC's top rushing attack and finished 20th in sacks allowed per game.
Both players will be building blocks for Brent Key's program for the next few seasons. If both players can keep improving, Being an All-ACC player next year is not completely out of the question.
This is not the first award for Singleton Jr this week.
Singleton Jr was in the running for offensive rookie of the year and he finished second. NC State wide receiver Kevin "KC" Concepcion was awarded the Rookie of the Year.
Concepcion got 54 first-place votes and Singleton Jr got five.
Including Singleton, Georgia Tech had seven players named to the All-ACC Teams.
Jaylon King earned second-team All-ACC at safety, Jamal Haynes was the third-team All-ACC running back, and Haynes King, Eric Singleton Jr, Jordan Williams, Joe Fusile, and Zeek Biggers were voted as honorable mentions at their positions.
Both of these players are showing why the future at Georgia Tech under Brent Key can be bright.
