Georgia Tech Defensive Tackle D'Quan Douse Enters the Transfer Portal

Douse was a starter this year for the Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech defensive tackle D'Quan Douse announced on social media this morning that they were going to enter the transfer portal. 

Douse has been a starter for the past two seasons, starting 12 games in 2022 and eight games in 2023. Last season, Douse finished with 26 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. In 2023, Douse finished with 35 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

2023 (Redshirt Junior): Started 8 games at defensive tackle … Ranked No. 4 among all interior defenders by Pro Football Focus … tied for third on the team with 2.0 sacks this year … Finished the year with 34 total tackles … Recorded a tackle in every game he played in this year, but was especially disruptive playing against ranked opponents, recording his top games in total tackles for all three ranked opponents … Had a breakout game at then-No. 17 Ole Miss (Sept. 16) with eight total tackles (season high) … Played a huge role in a 46-42 comeback win against then-No. 17 North Carolina (Oct. 28) with six total tackles, including five solo tackles (season high) and a sack … Finished the regular season strong with seven total tackles, including four solo tackles and a forced fumble against No. 1 Georgia (Nov. 25).

2022 (Redshirt Sophomore):Started all 12 games at defensive tackle … Ranked No. 5 among ACC interior defenders against the run with an all-America-level 80.7 run-defense grade according to Pro Football Focus … Tied for second on the team with 3.5 sacks and ranked fourth on the squad with 5.5 tackles for loss … Finished with 26 tackles overall … Had at least one tackle every game, but became an especially disruptive force late in the season, with all 5.5 of his tackle for losses coming in the second half of the season and all 3.5 of his sacks coming in the final four contests of the year … Recorded first TFL of the campaign against Virginia (Oct. 20) … Had a breakout performance in 28-27 win at Virginia Tech (Nov. 5), with seven tackles, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked PAT (all career highs) … Forced fumble not only thwarted a VT scoring opportunity deep in GT territory in the fourth quarter, but also led to a touchdown that started the Yellow Jackets’ comeback from a 27-16 deficit in the eventual 28-27 win … Blocked PAT also proved to be the difference in GT’s one-point win … Also turned up big in Tech’s 21-17 win at No. 13 North Carolina (Nov. 19) with a sack, two TFL and a force fumble.

2021 (Redshirt Freshman): Saw action in 10 games … Recorded lone tackle of the season at No. 6 Notre Dame (Nov. 20).

2020 (Redshirt Freshman – “Covid Year” – year of eligibility retained): Appeared in nine games and made two starts at defensive tackle … Finished the season with seven tackles … Was in the starting lineup for his collegiate debut at Florida State (Sept. 12) … Recorded first tackle against UCF (Sept. 19) … Blocked an extra-point attempt at Syracuse (Sept. 26) … Turned in his finest performance of the season with four tackles in nationally televised primetime win over Louisville (Oct. 9).

High School: Rated as a three-star prospect by ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals … Three-time all-region honoree, earning the recognition on defense as a junior and senior and on offense as a sophomore (tight end) … Also tabbed as a second-team all-region selection as a sophomore on defense … Two-time all-Greater Savannah honoree … Named to WJCL-TV’s preseason Big 22 team prior to his senior season, which recognizes the top 22 players across southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Low Country … Four-year letterwinner … Served as team captain as a senior … Coached by Mark Stroud … Also a three-year letterwinner and two-year captain in basketball … Named all-region on the hardwood as a junior … Outstanding student was named to Calvary Day’s Principal’s List (95 or higher in all classes) three different semesters.

Georgia Tech is losing a few defensive players to the portal, some of them starters or rotational players. DB Kenyatta Watson II, DB Kenan Johnson, DB K.J. Wallace, DL Etinosa Reuben, DL Kyle Kennard, DL Malcolm Pugh, DL Noah Collins, DL Jason Moore, DL Bryston Dixon, Douse, LB Trenilyas Tatum, and LB Ashton Heflin. This defense had a lot of struggles and will be undergoing some heavy personnel changes next season.
