Georgia Tech Football Midseason Report Card: Tight End

Georgia Tech has one of the top passing attacks in the ACC

Last season, no tight end on Georgia Tech's roster topped 100 yards or caught a touchdown and that was a problem. Most offenses are going to function better when they have a threat at the tight end position and after bringing in two transfers at the position, there was hope that the Yellow Jackets offense would have a threat at the position.

So far this season, Georgia Tech has elected to throw the ball more to its talented wide receivers and that has resulted in low numbers for the tight ends.

Luke Benson leads the way for the Georgia Tech tight ends with five catches for 56 yards and averaging over 11 yards per catch. Benson has an overall grade on PFF (Pro Football Focus) of 55.9, including a 58.9 run blocking grade.

Dylan Leonard opted to return for another season on The Flats and he does lead the Georgia Tech tight ends in terms of snaps, playing 213 this season. Leonard has four catches for 52 yards this season, averaging 13 yards per catch. He has a 52.1 grade on PFF, which is the lowest grade for any player on the Georgia Tech offense. He holds a 48.2 run-blocking grade on PFF.

Georgia transfer Brett Seither caught two touchdowns in the first two games, but has not caught one since. He is the only tight end with a touchdown catch this season. Seither has three catches for 26 yards and holds a 53.9 grade on PFF on 112 snaps.

In terms of production, the Georgia Tech tight ends have just not been a big part of the offense and the PFF grades leave a lot to be desired. It would be good for the offense if a tight end could emerge as a red zone target at the least, but this is not a position that has made an impact for one of the ACC's top passing offenses. We will see if that translates to the second half or if someone can emerge over the final six games at tight end.

Midseason Grade: D
