Georgia Tech Lands Two Players In Upcoming Super Bowl
Georgia Tech has landed two former players in the upcoming Super Bowl.
Harrison Butker and Jordan Mason are going to face off in two weeks when the Kansas City Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers. Both teams won close games today and now the former Yellow Jackets are going to get a chance to win a world championship.
Butker played a vital role in the first game.
With the first half winding down in today's AFC Championship between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City was called for back-to-back holding penalties and what looked like a potential touchdown drive to end the half looked like it might end with no points at all.
Facing a third and long, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes found his tight end Travis Kelce to get into field goal range. Former Georgia Tech kicker Harrison Butker stepped up to try and nail a 52-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-7 and that is exactly what he did. Butker nailed the kick and with the way most of the second half played out today, that kick proved to be absolutely crucial.
The Chiefs won the game 17-10 and Butker's kick helped the Chiefs maintain a two-score lead for much of the second half.
In the second game, the 49ers mounted a huge comeback in the second half to win the game 34-31, and while Mason did not play a huge role in getting the 49ers past the finish line against Detroit, it will be awesome to see him get to participate in the Super Bowl.
The 49ers will likely be favored in the game in Las Vegas, but one thing is for certain, one former Yellow Jacket is going to earn a Super Bowl Ring.
