Georgia Tech Linebacker Trenilyas Tatum Will Enter the Transfer Portal

Tatum totaled 81 tackles during his career with the Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech linebacker Trenilyas Tatum is going to enter the transfer portal. 

Tatum, who started multiple games this season, finished his career with 81 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble. 

Tatum was a starter at the beginning of the season alongside Paul Moala, but Kyle Efford replaced him around midway through the season as the starter.

2023 (Junior): Played in all 12 regular-season games and started the first six at linebacker … Ranks eighth on the team with 38 total tackles and is tied for fifth on the squad with four tackles for loss … Had at least one tackle in 11-of-12 games and made multiple stops in 10-of-12 … Opened the season with a career-high eight tackles and a pass breakup against Louisville (Sept. 1) … Came off the bench to record a tackle for loss in four of the final five games of the season (Oct. 28 vs. No. 17 North Carolina, Nov. 4 at Virginia, Nov. 18 vs. Syracuse and Nov. 25 vs. No. 1 Georgia), with Tech going 3-1 in those four games … Had five total tackles in the bowl-clinching win over Syracuse.

2022 (Sophomore): Saw action in all 12 games, making four starts … Recorded 31 total tackles on the season (18 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks and a forced fumble … Tallied a season-best seven tackles in the 35-17 win against Western Carolina (Sep. 10) and again made seven stops in the huge 36-21 road win at then-No. 24 Pitt (Oct. 1) … Recorded his first career forced fumble against Virginia (Oct. 20) … Also totaled four tackles (two solo) at No. 1 Georgia.

2021 (Freshman): Saw action in 10 games as a reserve linebacker and on special teams … Made first-career start at LB at No. 6 Notre Dame (Nov. 20) … Finished the season with 12 tackles in 10 games … After totaling just four stops over his first eight games of the year, made eight tackles in his final two contests — five (all solo) vs. Boston College (Nov. 13) and three at Notre Dame.

High School: Rated a four-star prospect by Rivals … Tabbed as the No. 18-ranked inside linebacker in the nation and the No. 24-ranked player in the state of Georgia by Rivals … As a junior, made 91 tackles with 31 tackles for loss and 14 sacks, en route to all-region recognition … Lettered in both football and basketball at Mt. Zion H.S. … Coached by Kevin “Bull” Jones.
