Georgia Tech Opens as Double-Digit Underdog vs No. 17 North Carolina

Georgia Tech and North Carolina are both coming off of losses over this past weekend

Georgia Tech and North Carolina both lost last night and will be looking to get back on track next week in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets dropped what felt like a must-win game for their bowl game chances and North Carolina lost to a previous 1-5 team in Virginia, likely ending any hopes of a dark horse college football playoff bid.

When they face each other this week, North Carolina is going to be the favored team according to Circa Sports. The Tar Heels have opened as a two-touchdown favorite over Georgia Tech.

One of the keys to this game will be if Georgia Tech can win the turnover battle. The defense for the Yellow Jackets has not been good this season but in wins against Wake Forest and Miami, the defense has been able to force multiple turnovers. The Yellow Jackets are going up against one of the nation's best offenses with a future top NFL pick in Drake Maye at quarterback and a dangerous group of receivers that includes former Georgia Tech receiver Nate McCollum.

Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King is also looking to bounce back from a rough couple of weeks. He has thrown seven interceptions over the last three games and is not playing near the level he was at earlier this season.

Outside of Georgia Tech fans, most would not know that the Yellow Jackets have won two in a row and four of the last five against North Carolina. Georgia Tech also leads in the all-time series 32-21. In each of the last two games against North Carolina, Georgia Tech has been a big underdog. Brent Key has been able to rally his team in previous games to play well against ranked opponents as a big underdog, but the Yellow Jackets are 1-4 when they are favored with Key as the head coach.

Last season, Georgia Tech held UNC to its season-low in points, in total yards, and Heisman-contending quarterback Drake Maye to his season-low in total passing yards, and the Yellow Jackets pulled a stunning upset as a three-touchdown underdog that was down their top two quarterbacks.

Georgia Tech vs North Carolina kicks off at 8:00 p.m. on ACC Network this upcoming Saturday.
