Georgia Tech vs Georgia: Three Defensive Players on Georgia to Know
Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is right around the corner and Georgia Tech is going to look to pull off the biggest upset of the season so far Saturday night.
We have already talked about the Georgia offense going into the game on Saturday and now it is time to take a closer look at the Bulldogs defense.
It should not surprise anyone that Georgia has an elite defense. They have the No. 1 passing and scoring defense in the SEC and in my opinion, have the best secondary in the country.
Georgia Tech has an offense though, but they are going to have to do better on Saturday than they have against other top defenses. Clemson and Miami both limited the Yellow Jackets and their explosiveness and that can't happen on Saturday if Georgia Tech wants to hang around.
So who are the top players on the Georgia defense to watch on Saturday?
1. S Tykee Smith
Not many safeties in the country are as good as Tykee Smith and he could become a pain for Haynes King and this passing attack.
Smith is the leading tackler for the Bulldogs with 56 and he also has two sacks and four interceptions. He dissects the plays before they even happen and has good instincts in the run-and-pass game. His ability to make plays could change the game on Saturday.
2. CB Kamari Lassiter
Smith might be the engine that makes this defense run, but Lassiter helps keep the outside locked down and is arguably the top cornerback in the country.
For the season, Lassiter has 34 tackles and eight pass deflections. When he is thrown at, there is not a lot of success from the opposing offense.
Georgia Tech uses a variety of weapons at receiver, but their biggest threat is true freshman Eric Singleton Jr and in the game against Clemson, GT tried early to take shot plays to him and take the top off of the defense. Lassiter is good at preventing that and I would not be surprised to see him matched up with Singelton ton Saturday.
3. DL Mykel Williams
A former five-star recruit, Williams might not be the disruptor on the interior that Jalen Carter was, but he is pretty dang good.
For the season, Williams has 3.5 sacks and although Georgia Tech is one of the top teams in the country in terms of sacks allowed, Williams and Georgia's entire defensive line could test that in a big way. It would not surprise me to see Georgia Tech try and double-team Williams in this game.
