Georgia Tech's Weston Franklin Embracing Being A leader, Says The "Sky Is The Limit" For How Good The O-Line Can Be
Another week of spring practice is underway for Georgia Tech and the Yellow Jackets are rolling towards their annual White and Gold Spring Game.
Unlike some recent years, Georgia Tech goes into the spring knowing they have one of the best offensive lines in the ACC and bring back the majority of guys that played major snaps last year. The O-Line is going to be a big strength for the team this year and they guy who will be one of the leaders up front is center Weston Franklin. Franklin took a huge step forward and helped the Yellow Jackets lead the ACC in rushing, as well as be near the top of the conference in sacks allowed. After practice on Tuesday, Franklin met with the media, and here is everything that he had to say.
1. On the goals he set for himself in the spring...
"Mainly for me, I kind of just, I know the offense pretty well. I'm still fixing it. a few things here and there Just to help the the whole group out But mainly, the main thing with me was just small technique things just trying to improve my individual game as much as I could. It's definitely went by fast I kind of just look around like, like, crap, I'm the old guy now. Everybody's looking at me as the old guy, and it's a lot different for me. Because, like I said, it's went by really quick for me. And so it's definitely a lot different."
2. On how good the offensive line can be...
"As far as we want to go, it's really up to us. And what we put into it is what we're going to get out of it. We can't be complacent. And based on last year's success, I mean, we got to put it to bed and move forward to this year and see where we can go. I mean, the sky's the limit for us. And we just got to continue improving and continue working well together like we have been and just continue to climb."
3. On what the offensive line does together off the field as a group...
"There's a place that's just opened up in a Tech square called Fry and Fork and Jordan, he can attest to that when he comes in here in just a little bit. He's kind of opened it up to the group and everybody goes in there and asks their class or whatever and just hangs out and eats and talks about getting away from football, talks about life, whatever's going on and things like that."
4. On getting the calls from Haynes King and Zach Pyron and the new communication system...
"It's definitely sped up some. Haynes really don't have to look at the signals anymore. He can just-- he kind of looks funny because he'll be back there just kind of like looking off into space just waiting for the call listening. [LAUGHTER] I'm like and I'm looking at him, I'm used to him looking at the sideline so it's kind of funny to see him look like that but it definitely picks up the tempo a lot so it allows to go a lot faster."
5. On freshman center Tana Alo-Tupuola...
"Well, he's definitely a really good player. I'm glad to have him in the room with us. He has great. He's good with technique and he's still fixing a few things, just moving from high school to college. But as a mid-year freshman, he's doing really well for himself. And I'm glad to have him in the room with him. He's a really smart guy and he's doing really well."
