Harrison Butker or Jordan Mason: Who Will Have the Bigger Impact in Today's Super Bowl?
Today is Super Bowl LVIII and it has a pair of former Yellow Jackets ready to make an impact in today's game.
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is no stranger to Super Bowls, as he is playing in his third one with the Chiefs. Butker played a key role in last year's game, knocking in the game-winning field goal to push the Chiefs past the Philadelphia Eagles.
On the other side, Jordan Mason has been a key depth piece for the 49ers in the backfield and is looking for his first Super Bowl Win. While Christian McCaffrey dominates the carries and snaps in the backfield, Mason could be a useful complement to him on Sunday. The Chiefs have a solid defense, but their run defense is the weakest link and San Francisco could decide to try and pound the rock on Sunday, which could include Mason getting some touches.
Of the two former Yellow Jackets, which one could have a bigger impact in today's game?
I think the answer is probably Butker.
While the Chiefs and 49ers both have a lot of firepower, this could be a lower-scoring game and that would mean that Butker has to make some big kicks. He has been a huge part of the Chiefs postseason runs over the past five years and has come up time and again for Kansas City.
Butker is likely to have more opportunities. Mason has not been playing much lately and with everything being on the line in this game, you can bet Christian McCaffrey is going to see nearly every carry tonight. Even the backup carries are not secure for Mason. Elijah Mitchell might receive any carries that McCaffrey does not and that means that Mason's role is not secure.
Butker was one of the heroes of last year's Super Bowl, nailing the game-winning kick, and in the AFC Championship game against the Ravens, he nailed a big kick before the end of the first half that proved crucial.
It is awesome to see two former Yellow Jackets have a chance to win a Super Bowl Ring tonight and they both have a chance to make an impact on tonight's game.
