No Finger Pointing Despite Being Between A Rock & A Hard Place
Waking up this morning, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets find themselves in a sticky situation.
Mentally, it's difficult for many players to move past a historic blowout loss. Physically, heading into a short week is one of the more demanding tasks in all of football. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets are having to face both predicaments at the exact same time.
The 45-0 loss last night to Virginia Tech was the first time that Georgia Tech had been shutout since 1997, add an additional 50 years, and you get the last time they were shutout at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Compounding matters, the Yellow Jackets now have to regroup at an accelerated pace as they are set to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in just 4 days.
Blowout losses can very easily lead to a lack of accountability amongst a program, especially with Tech moving to 2-8 on the season as a result. However, if it's any indicator from the postgame press conferences, the mentality of the team from players to coaches seems to be in the right place.
Head Coach Geoff Collins was quick to accept blame for the Saturday night debacle. When discussing early penalties and a lack of offensive rhythm to begin the game, he said "Those things are inexcusable. That's on me."
However, linebacker David Curry was quick to take up for Collins and the rest of the coaching staff. "We were definitely prepared, this has absolutely nothing to do with the coaches," he said. "The coaches gave us a great game plan."
As far as the team is concerned, where the real concern lies is getting healthy on such short notice. "The mood and the mindset, when we get this thing regrouped we’ll have it," Coach Collins said. "We’ve just got to make sure we’re in the right physical space to be able to play Thursday night.” Also chiming in, tight end Tyler Davis wasn't too concerned with moving the team process up a couple days, saying: "We just move forward."
