Way-Too-Early Bowl Projections: Analyst Has Georgia Tech Facing Group of Five Playoff Contender
Spring Football is wrapping up across the country and now college football fans will be getting ready for another round of transfer portal madness this week. The summer months are coming and the season will be creeping closer and closer.
That means it will be time for some early bowl projections and there are already some coming out. Georgia Tech is being projected to make another bowl game in year two under Brent Key and this time they are being projected to face a group of five team that might be contending for a playoff spot this season.
In 247Sports post-spring practice Way-Too-Early bowl projections, Brad Crawford has the Yellow Jackets facing Boise State in the Military Bowl. Boise State is a contender for the Mountain West Title and will be a contender for the group of five spot in the new 12-team college football playoff. In ESPN's way-too-early top 25 from February, no group of five team made the top 25, but the Broncos were the highest group of five team getting votes, ahead of Liberty and Air Force.
Georgia Tech and Boise State have never met before on the football field.
Making another bowl game would be a good season for the Yellow Jackets, especially considering how hard their schedule is. 11 of Georgia Tech's 12 opponents made bowl games last year and there are multiple teams on the 2024 schedule that have ACC title aspirations and/or hopes of making the college football playoff. It all starts with Florida State in Ireland and carries on with games against Louisville, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Miami, NC State, and of course, Georgia.
Georgia Tech of course would love to exceed those win total expectations and be a dark horse contender to make the ACC Championship. They return the majority of snaps from one of the top offenses in the ACC and Brent Key is hoping a revamped defensive staff can fix the issues they had on that side of the ball. The Yellow Jackets looked good in Saturday's White and Gold Spring Game and they are four months away from their huge season opener vs Florida State in Ireland.
