Georgia Tech Softball Loses 5-1 To No. 11 Alabama, Dropping Them To a 1-3 Start
Georgia Tech came into their game against No. 11 Alabama today looking to bounce back from their losses to Alabama and Villanova yesterday. The Yellow Jackets have had a hard time getting their offense going in the first three games of the season and that kind of spilled into today against Alabama.
Let's recap today's action vs No. 11 Alaba
Blake Neleman got the start for Georgia Tech today and here was the lineup:
1. CF Ella Edgmon
2. LF Madison Dobbins
3. DP Sara Beth Allen
4. 1b Abby Hughes
5. 3b Mallorie Black
6. 2b Grace Connelly
7. RF Gracyn Tucker
8. C Jayden Gailey
9. SS Jin Sileo
The first inning flew by with no team getting a hit. The first hit of the game came from the Crimson tide in the top of the second inning when Bailey Dowling had a leadoff single, but Alabama could not build off of that and it was time for the Yellow Jackets to step up and try and take the lead.
That did not happen though. Alabama pitched another shutout inning in the 2nd and Georgia Tech could not get a baserunner.
It looked like Georgia Tech was going to get out of the third inning without allowing a run. They had a pop-out to start the inning but then hit the next batter to let a player on base. After a ground out, Georgia Tech had two outs and were one out away from getting out of the third inning, but Kenleigh Cahalan had an RBI single to give Alabama a 1-0 lead. Alabama did get another hit, but Georgia Tech left the third inning only down 1-0.
The bad thing was though, it felt like that one run was all Alabama might need.
It was another hitless inning for Georgia Tech and it was 1-0 going into the fourth.
After the Crimson Tide had a leadoff single, Georgia Tech made some personnel changes. Kinsey Norton took over at pitcher and looked to keep Alabama at just one run. Lauren Esman hit an RBI double in the 4th to make it 2-0. That was all Alabama could get but in a game like this, two runs seemed like a lot.
The struggles hitting continued though. Georgia Tech did not get a hit in the 4th or 5th inning and they went into the 6th inning still down 2-0.
Alabama broke the game and seemingly broke the game open at the top of the 7th, scoring three runs and making it 5-0. It looked like Georgia Tech was not going to have a shot at getting back in the game, but they did not go away quietly,
After only getting one hit through the first six innings of the game, Georgia Tech started the final inning by getting back-to-back singles and then a walk loaded the bases for the Yellow Jackets with no outs. With one swing of the bat, Georgia Tech could have made it a one-run game.
That is not what happened though. Grace Connelly grounded into a triple play and Georgia Tech lost the game.
The Yellow Jackets are now 1-3 heading into their double-header against Longwood tomorrow. The first game is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
