Adam Morrison analyzes Gonzaga-Washington matchup which is shaping up to be a must-win for Huskies
A lot more than bragging rights and NCAA Tournament hopes could be at stake when the No. 7 Gonzaga Bulldogs and Washington Huskies renew their in-state rivalry on Saturday.
The Huskies (5-3) have had their share of struggles in the Mike Hopkins era. The program has one NCAA Tournament appearance under Hopkins, who took over in 2017 and immediately turned Washington into a Pac-12 contender. But it hasn't gone smoothly in Montlake since then, with three straight seasons outside the top 100 on KenPom.
"It feels, in my opinion, that staff is coaching for their jobs," former Gonzaga All-American Adam Morrison said of Washington on The Perimeter. "So I'm impressed when people, not only recognize that, but just recognize stuff is not working and they change their philosophy."
Indeed, Washington has revamped its roster primarily through the transfer portal. Hopkins brought in Kentucky transfer Sahvir Wheeler to help Keion Brooks Jr. in the backcourt, while Moses Wood brings outside shooting from Portland. The Huskies' top three scorers power an unselfish offense that averages 17.1 assists.
Morrison broke down how Washington's talent could pose issues for Gonzaga on a new episode of The Perimeter.
