Gonzaga men's basketball faces a setback before the 2023-24 campaign officially tips off.

Steele Venters, a 6-foot-7 sharpshooting wing who transferred from Eastern Washington, is out for the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee in practice earlier this week. Venters was poised to have a significant role as a starter following an impressive career at EWU, where he averaged 15.3 points per game, shot 37.1% from deep and won the Big Sky Player of the Year last season.

While the Ellensburg native won't suit up for the Bulldogs this season, the rest of the squad is expected to step up in his absence. Freshman Dusty Stromer is a candidate to start if Mark Few and the coaching staff decide to have three guards in the starting lineup. Ben Gregg or Braden Huff could also step in if Few chooses to run a "tall-ball" lineup instead.

Former Gonzaga All-American Dan Dickau breaks down how Venters' injury impacts the Bulldogs this season on a new episode of the Gonzaga Nation podcast.
