SECOND HALF:
FINAL: San Diego State 84, Gonzaga 74
San Diego State 78, Gonzaga 71 (3:38): Watson found an empty spot in the defense on a backdoor cut, in which Nembhard found the 6-foot-8 post for a score inside. A few possessions prior, Nembhard drilled a deep 2-pointer off an Aztecs' turnover, created by the halfcourt pressure, but was answered by Byrd on the other end.
San Diego State 68, Gonzaga 61 (7:27): Ike scored his fourth basket of the second half on a jumphook over Heide to cut into the Bulldogs' deficit. Heide committed a foul on Ike away from the ball on the next Gonzaga possession, as the Bulldogs went into the single bonus.
San Diego State 64, Gonzaga 58 (10:48): Mark Few threw the pressure right back at San Diego State with a halfcourt press with his team down by double-digits. Gonzaga forced three turnovers, one of which was a 10-second violation call, in about one minute of game time. Things got chippy with both teams trading blows back and forth.
San Diego State 64, Gonzaga 51 (11:29): Bulldogs showed life after Ben Gregg nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing, which was the team's fifth triple of the night.
San Diego State 62, Gonzaga 47 (13:25): Aztecs' swarming defense continued to thwarted Gonzaga's offense in the second half. Miles Byrd went coast-to-coast to give San Diego State its largest lead.
San Diego State 52, Gonzaga 44 (15:54): Waters intercepted a pass from Ike before finishing over Nembhard on the fastbreak score, as the Aztecs rattled off eight straight points to take control early in the second half.
HALFTIME: San Diego State 38, Gonzaga 37: Bulldogs led for much of the first half until an 11-2 scoring run over the final three minutes from the Aztecs, led by Trammell's 15 points. Gonzaga leaned heavily on Ike down low, as the 6-foot-9 post tallied eight points on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor. Ike's teammates shot a combined 9-for-26.
FIRST HALF:
Gonzaga 37, San Diego State 34 (1:21): Huff extended the lead with a putback layup down low. Trammell answered with a fadeaway 3-pointer just as the shot clock expired.
Gonzaga 35, San Diego State 29 (3:13): Aztecs broke the lid off the rim on a dunk from Miles Heide, as LeDee and Ike sat after battling down low for much of the first half. Hickman appeared to come up limp on a drive to the rim, prompting a timeout. He would stay in the game.
Gonzaga 29, San Diego State 27 (7:24): Bulldogs came out of the previous timeout with a 8-2 scoring spurt that brought the soldout McCarthey Athletic Center to its feet. Hickman drilled a pull-up 3-pointer from the left wing, before Nembhard hit Watson on an alley-oop the ensuing Gonzaga possession after Parrish missed a 3-point look for the Aztecs.
San Diego State 23, Gonzaga 19 (11:05): Trammell knocked down back to back 3-pointers that extended a 10-0 scoring run from the Aztecs into the midway point of the first half. The senior guard tallied 10 of San Diego State's first 23 points.
Gonzaga 11, San Diego State 9 (15:53): Following a stepback jumper from LeDee, Nembhard committed a turnover while trying to look for help on the wing. Bulldogs looked to attack the interior of San Diego State's stingy defense, with eight of their first 11 points coming in the paint.
