Gonzaga's Drew Timme goes undrafted, signs with Milwaukee Bucks as free agent
Drew Timme was not among the 58 players who heard their name called during Thursday’s 2023 NBA Draft, but the former Gonzaga All-American still received an opportunity before the night was over.
As an undrafted free agent, Timme signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Milwaukee Bucks several hours after the last pick was made from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The deal Timme signed is a minimum contract that can be converted to a two-way deal prior to the start of the season.
This gives Timme a chance to prove himself worthy of a roster spot during training camp and the Summer League.
Going undrafted was not a surprise for Timme, who was not listed in most recent mock drafts. His former teammate Julian Strawther was drafted in the first round by the Denver Nuggets.
Experts questioned Timme’s physical profile and his lack of a 3-point shot during the predraft process. Timme was measured at 6-foot-8 without shoes at the NBA Combine after being listed at 6-foot-10 during the college season.
His frame is considered undersized for an NBA big man, especially one that cannot stretch the floor with 3-point shooting. Timme shot 25.3% from deep in four seasons at Gonzaga.
As a senior, Timme averaged 21.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He also became Gonzaga’s all-time leading scorer and was named CBS National Player of the Year.
Leading up to the draft, Timme worked out for several organizations, including the Los Angeles, Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks.
Malachi Smith, who was also a member of last season’s Gonzaga squad, remains an undrafted free agent.
