Conference realignment is nothing new in college athletics, though it has certainly ramped up in recent months with college football and media rights deals as the driving forces.

But in every case of a school leapfrogging across the country to join a new conference, none of the movement has centered around men's college basketball. Gonzaga, which doesn't have a football program, has had talks with the Big East, Big 12 and Pac-12 in the past, but a move never materialized for the Bulldogs.

After talks with the Big 12 ended, it was clear that the lack of football could potentially cost Gonzaga a chance to join a Power 5 conference.

That's why Gonzaga "would make history" if it realigned to a high-profile conference based on its college basketball brand, in the eyes of ROOT Sports announcer Greg Heister.

Former Gonzaga All-American Dan Dickau sat down with Heister to discuss conference realignment on the latest episode of the Gonzaga Nation podcast. Watch the full discussion above.
