Following its gauntlet at the Maui Invitational, the No. 11 Gonzaga Bulldogs are back in Spokane to host Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday night.
The Zags (4-1) took two of three games at the multi-team event held at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i. After a 10-point loss to No. 1 Purdue, the eventual Maui Invitational champions, Gonzaga rebounded amid short turnarounds against Syracuse and UCLA in back-to-back days to claim fifth place. Anton Watson earned all-tournament team honors for his 32-point performance against the Bruins, as the fifth-year senior led the way in scoring with 17.3 points to go with 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
Five players average in double-figures for scoring, paced by Watson at 16.6 points per game. Gonzaga ranks 13th in offensive efficiency according to KenPom and 12th in defensive efficiency.
The Roadrunners (3-3) look to bounce back from an injury-riddled 2022-23 season behind sophomore guard Kaleb Higgins, who leads in scoring with 16.3 points per game. Bakersfield was picked to finish eighth in the Big West by the league's coaches. Two of the team's three losses came against USC and Cal in the SoCal Challenge earlier in November.
