No. 16 Gonzaga and BYU meet for the final time in the regular season as WCC opponents

BYU is moving to the Big 12 next season, but the No. 16 Gonzaga Bulldogs will get one more chance to play the Cougars as conference foes when they welcome them to Spokane Saturday (February 11).

Gonzaga (20-5, 9-2 WCC) last played on Thursday when the Bulldogs earned a 99-81 victory over visiting San Francisco. 

It was a historic night for senior All-American Drew Timme whose first basket of the night broke a tie with Frank Burgess for the most made field goals in program history with 801. On top of logging 21 points, he also snagged four rebounds in the win to become just the sixth Bulldog to grab 800 career rebounds.

Timme is now just 146 points shy of passing Burgess as Gonzaga’s all-time leading scorer.

Rasir Bolton led the way for the Zags with a team-high 23 points and six rebounds. 

BYU (16-11, 6-6 WCC) has lost four of its last six games and comes into this matchup fresh off a 92-80 loss on the road at Pepperdine. 

This is the 32nd all-time meeting between the two programs.

The last time Gonzaga and BYU met was at BYU on January 12. The Bulldogs were nearly upset by the unranked Cougars in that game, but Julian Strawther hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with just 9.8 seconds left in the game to lift then No. 8 Gonzaga to a thrilling 75-74 victory.

Including that win, the Zags are 24-7 against BYU all-time. 

After this game, the Bulldogs have a chance for redemption as they welcome Loyola Marymount to Spokane for the first time since the Lions upset them on January 19.
