No. 12 Gonzaga returns home to host Santa Clara for the two programs' 100th all-time meeting

No. 12 Gonzaga and Santa Clara face off for the 100th time in program history when the Bulldogs return home for their final regular season matchup against the Broncos Thursday (February 2).

Gonzaga (18-4, 7-1 WCC) improved to No. 12 in the latest AP Poll after wrapping up a short two-game road trip with an 82-67 victory at Portland last week that saw Julian Strawther tally a career-high 40 points. 

The junior guard shot 14-of-21 from the field, including 8-of-12 from deep, and became the first Zags' player to reach 40 points since Kyle Wiltjer had 45 points against Pacific in 2016.

Despite the win, Gonzaga still sits just below No. 22 Saint Mary's, who owns the top spot in the WCC standings. 

The Bulldogs continue to lead the country in shooting percentage (51.8%) as well as points per game (86.3). 

Santa Clara (16-7, 4-4 WCC) and Gonzaga last met on January 7 when the Zags escaped with an 81-76 victory on the road. The Bulldogs trailed by 14 points in that matchup but used a strong second half to pull out the win. 

The Broncos are coming off a pair of back-to-back losses on the road against St. Mary's and at home versus Pacific. 

Brandin Podziemski turned in his third 30-point effort of the season against Pacific, notching a career-high 38 points on 13-of-21 shooting including six three-pointers (both career-highs). 

Gonzaga holds a 69-30 advantage all-time against Santa Clara in a series that dates back to 1959. 

The Bulldogs are 45-4 against SCU under head coach Mark Few and they have won 48 of the last 50 meetings against the Broncos, including the last 25 in a row.
