Men's college basketball rankings: Gonzaga falls to No. 16 in AP Top 25 poll (2/6/23)
The Gonzaga men’s basketball team fell four spots to No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Monday.
After a triumphant 88-70 win over Santa Clara at home on Thursday, the Zags (19-5, 8-2 WCC) lost 78-70 on the road to Saint Mary’s on Saturday. The Gaels improved to No. 15 in the poll and are two games ahead of Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference standings.
The Zags return home this week to San Francisco on Thursday, before facing BYU on Saturday. The matchup with the Cougars will be the last time the programs meet as conference rivals, with BYU set to leave for the Big 12 at the conclusion of the season.
Purdue remained atop the poll, despite its most recent loss to No. 18 Indiana. Houston, Alabama and Arizona all moved up one rank to No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
The top five is rounded out by the Texas Longhorns, who led the poll with a five-spot jump after defeating No. 14 Baylor and No. 12 Kansas State last week. Kansas State tumbled five spots, the most of any team in the national rankings.
