Saint Mary's Gaels vs. San Diego: Latest betting odds for WCC opener

Gaels the heavy favorite for WCC opener on the road against San Diego

Saint Mary's and San Diego will clash for the first time this season on Thursday night when the two teams meet in their WCC opener.

San Diego (10-5) begins conference play with the third-best record in the West Coast Conference and will look to continue its dominance at home after winning nine of its first 10 games at the Jenny Craig Pavilion this season. With a win over St. Mary's, the Toreros would match their win total from the 2022-2023 season (11). Wayne McKinney III (14.6 ppg), Deuce Tanner (13.9 ppg) and PJ Hayes (10.2 ppg) are all averaging double-digit scoring numbers this season.

Saint Mary's (9-6) holds the fourth-best record in the WCC and has leaned heavily on its strong defense this season. The Gaels rank in the top-15 in the nation for points allowed (58.5 ppg, 3rd in the NCAA) and opponent field goal percentage (37.7%, 11th in the NCAA). They are just one of eight teams in the NCAA allowing less than 60 ppg this year. On offense, sophomore guard Aidan Mahaney has led the way with 12.7 ppg, while Mitchell Saxen and Augustas Marciulionis also average more than 10 ppg.

Thursday's WCC opener will be the 96th meeting between San Diego and Saint Mary's, with the Gaels holding a 59-36 advantage all-time in the series.
