Do preseason college basketball polls matter?

With the transfer portal contributing to significant roster turnover, it's more difficult than ever before to assess how good a team is before they play a game.

The Gonzaga men's basketball team, which tips off its season against Lewis-Clark State in an exhibition game on Friday, November 3, is ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll. It's the first time the Zags have been ranked outside the preseason top 10 since 2017.

"Nobody has played. The preseason polls ... I don't think they've ever had a lot of value, but in today's game they have even less value," said Gonzaga men's basketball assistant coach Brian Michaelson. "Rosters are going to have so much turnover."

In the third episode of Talking Zags, Michaelson joins Dan Dickau and Adam Morrison to talk about preseason polls, recruiting freshman vs. transfers and much more.
