Gonzaga offers Asa Newell, Montverde Academy 5-star forward
R-Jay Barsh's Florida connections are already making an impact.
The Gonzaga men's basketball program offered Montverde Academy (Florida) 5-star junior forward Asa Newell on Tuesday. Newell is considered a rising star in the class of 2024 and was recently profiled by SBLive Sports in their "Who's Got Next" series.

Only at Montverde Academy could a player ranked in the top 15 nationally in his class be considered a breakout candidate for next season. Newell came off the bench this year for the No. 1 ranked team in the country, but he consistently impacted the game in limited minutes with strong play in the paint. In 12 NIBC contests, the 6-foot-9 junior finished seventh on the team in scoring and rebounding with 5.5 points and 2.4 boards per game.
Newell announced the offer on Twitter and tagged Barsh, Gonzaga's newest assistant coach. Barsh was hired from Florida State in April to replace Roger Powell.
Newell has offers from Georgia, Indiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida and others. He has taken visits to both Georgia and Indiana.
