Gonzaga men's basketball is looking to strike in the transfer portal once again as four-star freshman and Kansas transfer Marcus Adams Jr. has scheduled an official visit to Spokane, 24/7 High School Hoops reported Thursday.

Upon entering the portal Sunday, Adams Jr. told On3's Joe Tipton that he'd heard from Gonzaga, West Virginia BYU, Oregon, Missouri, Boston College, Mississippi State, UC Santa Barbara and Binghamton.

The 6-foot-8, 205-pound freshman requested a release from his National Letter of Intent and reopen his recruitment after enrolling in classes at Kansas.

“I felt like KU wasn’t the right place for me,” Adams told The Kansas City Star. “I see everybody in the comments and some reporters saying it was about playing time … it’s not. I felt like I would have been good there if I stayed, but I had a gut and heart feeling. I felt like it wasn’t a place for me.

Per the NCAA rules regarding players' "Division I five-year clock" window, Adams Jr. requested a release of his NLI to avoid using his one-time free transfer and obtaining a waiver to play during the 2023-24 season.

From Torrance, California, the Narbonne High School product was the No. 8-ranked small forward and the 11th-ranked recruit in the state of California.

Adams Jr. chose Kansas over UCLA, Arkansas, Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Tennessee, USC, Washington and Washington State.

Playing time for Adams Jr. at Gonzaga is hard to forecast with an abundance of wings and forwards, but he'd certainly fit in a starting role next season once Steele Venters and Anton Watson depart.

Following Alex Toohey's decommitment, the Zags have three open scholarships to award. Jose Perez is another name to follow, as the graduate transfer guard has been linked to Gonzaga as well.
