Could Gonzaga land Rutgers transfer Paul Mulcahy?
Are the Zags about to land another dude?
Rutgers guard Paul Mulcahy entered the college basketball transfer portal on June 9 and was reportedly considering Gonzaga as a possible destination. But roster depth at the shooting guard and small forward positions posed a potential issue.
Now, with class of 2023 guard Alex Toohey decommitting on Friday, a path has been cleared for Mulcahy. On the latest episode of the Gonzaga Nation podcast, Dan Dickau says Mulcahy is "strongly" considering the Zags. He is reportedly visiting Notre Dame and Xavier this week, but could soon be on his way to Spokane.
Mulcahy, a 6-foot-7 senior, averaged 7.8 points, 4.4 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game in three seasons as a starter for the Scarlet Knights. He led Rutgers to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022, which marked the program's first time at the Big Dance since 1991.
