Gonzaga retires Dan Dickau's jersey: Sights and sounds from the ceremony
SPOKANE - Former Gonzaga All-American Dan Dickau left reporters at a press conference with a fitting line after his jersey was unveiled in the rafters of the McCarthy Athletic Center on Thursday.
"Once a shooter, always a shooter," Dickau said.
Dickau's jersey went up into the rafters in a pregame ceremony before Gonzaga's 99-81 win over San Francisco. Dickau was the first Gonzaga basketball player to be named a first-team Associated Press All-American. He was a first-round pick in the 2002 NBA Draft and played six years in the league.
He was joined at center court with his family and gave a roughly five-minute speech to the sold-out crowd, crediting his wife, Heather Dickau, for her support, as well as a long list of basketball mentors.
At halftime of the game, Dickau answered questions from reporters at a press conference about his legacy, the ceremony and more. Watch Dickau's entire speech and press conference on Gonzaga Nation.
