Santa Clara aims to pick up its conference-best fifth WCC win of the season at home against Portland

Santa Clara has gotten off to a hot start to begin league play and the Broncos will look to keep that momentum rolling with a conference-best fifth WCC win on Saturday when they host the Portland Pilots. 

Portland will attempt to end a 15-game losing streak against Santa Clara that dates back to January 2016.

Santa Clara (13-7, 4-1 WCC) is fresh off its fourth conference victory of the season with an 88-69 win on the road against Pacific on Thursday that saw junior Johnny O'Neil turn in a career-high 23 points. 

O'Neil knocked down a career-best six three-pointers to reach that number and helped the Broncos shoot a strong 47.5% from the field. 

Bal Adama-Alpha and Carlos Marshall Jr. each added 12 points a piece in the wire-to-wire victory.

Marshall Jr. was especially efficient, tallying his 12 points while playing just 13 minutes.

Portland (7-11, 1-2 WCC) comes into this game as the worst defensive team in the WCC allowing 79 points per contest. 

The Pilots will be playing their first game of the week after their Thursday contest with San Diego was postponed due to weather conditions in the Pacific Northwest. That game has now been rescheduled for January 23.  

To pull off the upset against Santa Clara, Portland will likely need to lean heavily on senior Tyler Robertson, who is currently the WCC's third-leading scorer with 15.9 ppg.
