In the last few seasons, the Connnecticut Huskies have been through some ups and downs as a program. Someone who has been a model of consistency in that time for UConn has been offensive guard Christian Haynes.

For roughly the last 24 months, Haynes' NFL stock has been consistently growing as he's shown that he can go toe-to-toe with the game's toughest interior defenders. His Senior Bowl performance this All-Star cycle solidified those impressions.

Here are the other important facts to know about the former Husky.

Background

Measurements: 6'3" - 317 pounds

An extremely capable high school lineman in Bowie, Maryland, Haynes redshirted his first season at UConn in 2018. He went on to start every game for UConn in 2019 and then 2021-2023. UConn did not play the 2020 season at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. That added up to 49 consecutive starts for Haynes, all at right guard.

Per PFF, Haynes played 1294 pass blocking snaps. He allowed just three sacks with 19 QB hurries in that span. His run-blocking skills were also on display, particularly in 2022 when the Huskies averaged 194.9 yards per game.

In both 2022 and 2023, Haynes received Third-Team All-America Honors from the Associated Press. He's only the third player of UConn's FBS era to be an All-American.

The Strengths

As a run blocker, Haynes is a mauler - plain and simple. He can pull efficiently and is able to establish ideal pad height when he gets that good first step off the ball. Additionally, as a run blocker, he does a nice job of getting his head where it needs to be. This enables him to create a hole for backs to run through, even when he isn't necessarily able to overpower a defender on a given rep.

Only once in a blue moon will you see Haynes get a little too much of his weight leaning forward in pass blocking scenarios. The overwhelming majority of the time, he's able to keep a balanced stance and his inside tight enough to get in control of his man and stay in control.

Combine Stats

40-Yard Dash: 5.03 seconds

10-Yard Split: 1.75 seconds

Vertical Jump: 33’’

Broad Jump: 8’ 6’’

3-Cone Drill: N/A

20-Yard Shuttle: N/A

Bench Press: 25 reps

What's Next

Haynes will very likely be a day two selection come draft weekend. At this point, he's done just about everything he can to show he's in the top handful of interior linemen in this draft class. He'll be a good pickup for a team looking to find a blocker that can be starter-ready fairly quickly.
