Charlotte 49ers Hire Dre Bly As Defensive Assistant
Dre Bly played 11 seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams. Now, he'll be a member of the Charlotte 49ers coaching staff in Biff Poggi's second season at the helm.
The university announced Bly's hire as a defensive analyst in a press release on Wednesday. Bly was most recetly the cornerbacks coach for the Detroit Lions in 2023. Before that, he spent four seasons as the cornerbacks coach at the University of North Carolina. Bly was named Rivals.com's ACC Recruiter of the Year in 2022.

In Detroit, Bly helped coach a Lions defense that allowed 23.3 points per game, 23rd in the league. The Lions also allowed an average of 247 yards per game through the air, 27th in the NFL.
Bly's son, Trey, is also on Charlotte's staff as a defensive student assistant.
Charlotte open their season on August 31 when they host James Madison. Their week two opponent on September 7 will be Bly's alma mater, North Carolina.
