REPORTS: Army's AAC Membership "A Few Weeks Away"
Based on reports from Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, we could see yet another shift within the American Athletic Conference finalized in a fairly short amount of time.
This week, Dellenger spoke with AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco, who indicated that the conference and Army are moving ever closer to an agreement for the United States Military Academy to join the league as a football only member.
“We are definitely pursuing it,” Aresco said in an interview with Yahoo Sports. “There’s a reasonable possibility it gets done. Army is interested. We certainly are.”

A key aspect of of the potential agreement between Army and the AAC is the scheduling of the annual rivalry game against Navy, who is also an AAC member.
Per Dellenger's reporting, Army would "continue its annual rivalry game with Navy on the traditional date on the second weekend of December. The game will not count in the conference standings, and the two schools will not play in the regular season. However, they could meet in the conference championship game as the top two finishers in the regular season... then would play again in the Army-Navy Game."

Army football coach Jeff Monken has voiced his preference for remaining an Independent as recently as two weeks ago.
"I value our independency, Monken stated in a recent press conference. "I think it's fantastic to be able to play people all over the country. I also see the changing landscape of college football and the realignment of conferences and the value of aligning our program with a conference. So, it's something we've got to look at and look at strongly."

Army will continue their 2023 campaign on October 7 when they welcome ACC foe Boston College to Michie Stadium in West Point.
