A close second are SMU, who are also 2-0 in conference play, but 4-2 overall. SMU rolled to a 31-10 win over East Carolina on Thursday night. Their only two losses were to Oklahoma and TCU earlier this year. SMU currently have the top scoring defense in the AAC, allowing 17 points per game.

Tulane and SMU are not scheduled to play one another this year. With the AAC having gotten rid of divisions, the top two teams will meet in the league championship game.

Tulane won the 2022 AAC Championship and later went on to defeat USC and Heisman winner Caleb Williams in the Cotton Bowl.

SMU have not won a conference title since 1984, but have reached a bowl game in each of the last four seasons.

Tulane's next game will see them host AAC newcomer North Texas on October 21. SMU will face Temple in Philadelphia that same day.
