Texas State head coach GJ Kinne started his tenure with the Bobcats on the right foot in Week One with a wild win over the Baylor Bears in Waco. It was Texas State's first win over a P5 opponent in program history.

The following week, Kinne faced off with his one-time mentor Jeff Traylor, who coaches the UTSA Roadrunners, in San Antonio. UTSA won that game 20-13. The Roadrunners joined the American Conference this year after back-to-back Conference USA titles.

Kinne chatted with the media during the Sun Belt's weekly media Zoom call on Monday. During the call, Kinne was asked by a member of the media if he thought the average fan realized that UTSA was close to being as high quality of a team as Baylor was. Kinne took it one step further.

"Yeah, they're better to be honest with you," Kinne said referring to UTSA and alluded to the fact that being a G5 team doesn't mean much in this context. "They've been doing it for a long time. Traylor's been doing it for a while. Really good team. I think it's great for us and our fan base. We went into that game expecting to win...which is awesome. That's what we want. That's what we're building at Texas State. We just got to execute better."

Texas State will attempt to rebound from the UTSA loss on Saturday when they host defending SWAC champions Jackson State. It will be Kinne's first home game as the coach of the program.
