#1 Recruit In New Mexico Commits To UTEP Football

As the UTEP football program prepares for the first season of Scotty Walden's tenure, they picked up a recruiting win for the 2024 signing class. 

Linebacker Stratton Shufelt, who goes by Strat, announced his commitment to UTEP via social media on January 22. Shufelt, a product of Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, is a three-star recruit and the #1 overall recruit in the state of New Mexico, per 247Sports.

Rio Rancho is a suburb of Albuquerque, about a four and a half hours north of El Paso. El Paso sits along Texas' border with New Mexico. 

Shufelt chose the Miners over offers from in-state schools New Mexico and New Mexico State, as well as P5 offers from Wisconsin, Washington State, and Colorado. He's listed by 247Sports as 6'2" and 220 pounds. 

National Signing Day is Wednesday, February 7.
