Currently, Conference USA is a three-team race, with a crop of other programs trying to figure out who exactly they are.

Let’s start with the lesser end as Middle Tennessee, NM State and Kennesaw State all lost to out-of-conference competition.

The Aggies fell to their rival and now are dealing with the off-field issue of their offensive coordinator embroiled in controversy. MTSU dropped a contest against Memphis, which was expected and it’s going to be an uphill climb for the FBS newcomers in Kennesaw State.

Sonny Cumbie’s team had a chance to make a statement with a win over FIU, who were coming off a disappointing loss to FCS Monmouth a week prior. Instead, the Panthers pick up their second win of the year and will look to truly shake up CUSA if they can upset Liberty next week.

The most impressive win of the week is easily K.C Keeler’s Sam Houston Bearkats team, who beat Texas State at Houston’s NRG Stadium and now appear poised to build off last season's several one-score losses.
