The last time an FIU wide receiver was added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List was in 2021 when Tyrese Chambers ended the season with 1,074 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. With the departure of Chambers, Kris Mitchell has turned into WR1.

Mitchell has lived up to the title thus far. In seven games, Mitchell has 638 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season.

Mitchell has already set career highs in receiving yards and has tied his career high in touchdowns. Amongst Conference USA, Mitchell ranks fifth in receptions per game, second in receiving yards per game and first in reception yards this season.

Mitchell also ranks 11th among all FBS players and leads Conference USA with 636 receiving yards over the first seven games of 2023. He is averaging 90.9 receiving yards per game, the 18th best total in FBS.

A big reason for Mitchell's increased workload this season is also the emergence of true freshman quarterback Keyone Jenkins who has targeted Mitchell the most out of any wide receiver.

Kris Mitchell and the Panthers are set to take on the Sam Houston Bearkats tonight at 7:00 pm. The game will be aired on CBS Sports Network.
